Paul Colton (founder of Xamlon, the company I work for) has some really good points about why Flash is generally a way better solution that js/dhtml/xml. There is a link to a really Google Maps simulation that Ingo did there. The coolest thing about it is he did it in a few days, no prior Swf experience, with our product still in beta (so not everything he needed was easily available). It makes me think there are a lot of really good .Net programmers out there that will bring some serious skills to the Flash platform : ). Not that there isn't a lot of serious skill out there already, just can't hurt to add more!

As he also mentioned, we will be launching at Flash Forward on the 6th of April. We'll all be there, Ingo and I will be giving a presentation as well, on the 7th of April, 4:00 - 5:00. If you are just too busy to get there, or they won't let you across the US border, not to worry - we will also be at FITC which is like the day after, 9th - 11th. There it will be Kevin and I presenting, on April 11th from 10:15 - 11:15 (am! argh!). Should be a ton of fun to finally meet all the Flash people I've come to know and love over the years : ).

Last thing, if you had applied for the second beta, it is running now - if you haven't been hooked up with it for whatever reason just let me know and I'll send the info your way..

Well, back to work. The .Net type system is now pretty much in, now we're just optimizing object creation and calls to go through the tables. This is already making things way smaller, and it is only about 10% done! It is working really well so far, whew!

Interesting to read you're looking at Ajax/XmlHttp. In ASP.NET 2.0, we have a nice feature that makes it much easier to develop applications like Google Suggest or Google Maps. I've written a few cool demos that I'm going to post on my blog in a few days. Here, I'm talking about development times of a few hours.

cool, I'd totally love to see them! It is neat we are sort of working on the same kinds of things, or same goals at least : ). So is that like IL>browser neutral javascript?

errrr, not really. Nice idea, though. Not! Or maybe... Noooo.
Well, in a way, ASP.NET is a little like IL > html+javascript, but it's not a direct translation as you're doing for Xamlon, of course, it's one generating the other. Closer to Flex than to Xamlon...

    Right On :-)

Nice to hear you'll be at FITC and representing Xamlon for Flash. I'll be there 110%.

Xamlon recently started promoting AFLAX as an alternative to Jesse Garrett's AJAX. AJAX is a label for Web apps that use HTML, asynchronous Javascript, and XML. AFLAX says hey, why not use Macromedia Flash instead? Paul Colton of Xamlon...
